Opportunities listed below are free for ages 55+ unless otherwise noted. An additional 20% fee will be applied to all paid programming for out-of-parish participants. This does not apply to admission into facilities.
The BREC Adult Leisure genre includes recreation facilities, events and programs across East Baton Rouge Parish offering a variety of recreational opportunities for adults ages 55 and up. These opportunities vary and can include arts and crafts, health and wellness and seasonal pop-up events.

Arts + Culture
CLASSIC CERAMICS OPEN STUDIO
Spark your interest in Ceramics. Participants bring their own supplies: paint/brushes/pieces or can purchase a piece from our selection. Seasoned participants provide insight on the techniques involved in the painting and glazing of ceramics. The focus of this class is not the forming of the ceramic piece but administering the paint and glaze to preformed ceramic pieces.

LOYAL TO THE SOIL GARDENING CLUB
Do you have a green thumb? Are you interested in learning more about gardening? Either way, the Loyal to the Soil Gardening program is for you! This program extends the opportunity to contribute your time and expertise to grow nutritious foods, socialize with others and pass on cross- generational knowledge to younger community members.

PAINTING WITH A PURPOSE CLASS
Are you interested in learning to paint? Our Painting with Purpose class provides participants the opportunity to experience and explore a variety of painting techniques and mediums. Instructor will guide class in painting projects and allow them to explore their creativity by creating unique pieces of art. Participants will receive a supply list to select, purchase and bring in their own supplies.

SHARP AS A NEEDLE SEWING CLASS
Do you have a sewing machine, patterns or fabric laying around? Are you interested in developing a new skill and learning how to sew? No matter what skill level you are starting from, Sharp as a Needle Sewing Class is for you! Our instructor will familiarize participants with the sewing machine: parts, function and how to operate. Different patterns and materials will be presented, discussed and utilized to make individual projects.

WARMTH OF THE EARTH POTTERY PROGRAM
Use your hands to get creative while shaping and molding clay into beautiful pieces of artwork. Basic pottery techniques are introduced where participants will be allowed to create, paint, and glaze their individual pieces. The finished product will then be fired by the instructor.

Health + Wellness
BUSY BODIES
Busy bodies is a Senior instructor-led exercise program using chairs, weight, strength bands and balancing bars. This program addresses some of the major wellness components needed for optimal health. Thesr areas include strength, flexibilty, balance, cognition and nutrition.

COMMIT TO BE FIT AEROBICS CLASS
Are you ready to get out of the house and have some fun? Come and enjoy a low impact aerobics class with us! Commit to Be Fit works your entire body utilizing great music and purposeful moves that helps you to get in the groove, in and out of class.
